About Jhandewalan Temple

The entire management of the Badri Bhagat Jhandewala Devi Temple was established in 1944 by the “Badri Bhagat Jhandewala Temple Society.” At that time, the society’s chief role was initiated under the guidance of Brahmlin Shri Prem Kapoor, who is a descendant of Badri Bhagat Ji. The society includes respected individuals from various social strata who have dedicated themselves to religious and social activities.

The temple administration is overseen by a Minister, with additional support from an extra minister, a treasurer, and an additional manager, all of whom are also part of the temple trust. To assist them, there is an office within the temple premises housing accounting, public relations officers, office staff, several priests, and other employees.

The Vasanti Navratra and Sharadiya Navratra are the two major festivals celebrated in the temple, attracting thousands of devotees who come to seek the blessings of Maa Jhandewali. The temple management ensures the convenience and safety of the incoming devotees, distributing responsibilities among different departments and teams, comprising a 40-member Utsav Samiti.

The main deity of the temple is Maa Jhandewali Devi, and besides her, there are also beautiful shrines dedicated to Maa Guwawali Devi and Maa Santoshi. The temple complex also houses a divine Shivling and a Shiv Parivar in a cave, along with a magnificent Shivale. On the second floor of the temple, there is a temple dedicated to Maa Kali. The temple society actively participates in various social activities, including organizing health camps, setting up a library, and establishing educational centers for women and girls.

The temple’s management and the society have contributed significantly to social causes, including organizing blood donation drives and establishing a cow shelter and research center. The current president of the society is Shri Navin Kapoor, a descendant of Badri Bhagat Ji, who is leading various initiatives to expand the temple’s facilities and enhance its services.

The temple has adapted to modern times by live streaming daily rituals and programs on YouTube and Facebook, allowing devotees worldwide to participate. Additionally, online registration is available for devotees to connect with the temple virtually.

Temple History of Jhandewalan Temple, Delhi

Jhandewalan Temple, located in the heart of Delhi at Jhandewalan, is a significant Siddhapeeth dedicated to Jhandewali Devi. Due to its religious and historical importance, the state government has included it among Delhi’s prominent tourist attractions. Throughout the year, a large number of devotees from India and abroad visit the temple without any discrimination, and during Navratri, the place becomes crowded with worshippers.

Every devotee visiting the temple experiences mental peace and joy. As a blessing, each devotee receives the goddess’s prasad upon visiting. The history of Jhandewalan Temple dates back to the 18th century, with the initial discovery by a devout trader, Shri Badri Das. His regular visits to the area led to the revelation of an ancient temple buried in a cave.

Shri Badri Das, a devout follower of Vaishno Devi, had a spiritual experience that guided him to uncover a temple in a cave near a spring. Later, in a dream, he saw a temple at the same location, indicating an unseen force urging him to reveal the temple. After dedicated efforts, a damaged idol was unearthed. The original idol was replaced by a new one, and a large flag was hoisted above the temple, giving it the name Jhandewalan.

The place where the discovered idol is enshrined became known as Gufa Wali Mata. Devotees worship the silver-handed deity in the same cave. Over time, the temple underwent changes, and the surroundings transformed with the construction of buildings. During the partition of India, refugees sought shelter around the temple, altering its character. Presently, it is surrounded by commercial centers like Paharganj, Karol Bagh, and Sadar Bazar.

After the demise of Bhagat Badri Das, his son Shri Ramji Das and grandson Shri Shyam Sundar Ji took charge of the temple’s affairs. In 1944, Shri Shyam Sundar Ji established the Badri Bhagat Jhandewala Temple Society to manage the temple’s activities and events systematically.
